Who takes the five second rule seriously? The rule states that once you drop some food you have five seconds to pick it up and eat it, any longer and it will be too contaminated, now you’ll have to throw it out. Although I don’t strictly follow the rule, I will pick up food after I drop it, that it is if it’s something dry like a chip or maybe a granola bar.
It seems that some people have actually tested the idea out. Most famously Mythbusters, found that there was no significant difference in the number of bacteria collected from 2 seconds exposure as there was from 6 seconds exposure. The moisture, surface geometry and the location the food item was dropped on did, however, affect the number of bacteria.
Well, I don’t mind taking my chances with a little bacteria. My research into hangovers taught me that your stomach actually produces hydrochloric acid, take that bacteria! Of course you could get sick from using the floor as a plate, especially in the kitchen, the most bacteria infested room in the house, but we’re much more likely to get sick from something like undercooked meat or a Canucks loss.

Most of Liz’s family were sitting around chatting after Thanksgiving dinner the other weekend when Gibson came in the room. He sat on his Mom’s lap and started looking through the Playmobile catalog that was sitting there. He then announced something like, “Wow, that one’s a cute littler f*cker,” pointing at the picture of one of the models.
you really are carrying a conversation with your date or friend anyway. This way I get to see the movie I want without sharing my treats or tissues during the tear jerking part of the show.
I completed my first audio book at work this week,
A friend has been telling me about this website called TED for a while now, TED stands for technology, entertainment, design. TED holds a conference each year featuring talks by some of the worlds smartest, most innovative and inspirational people, these are known as TED talks. Past speakers have included former U.S.A. prez Bill Clinton, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, musical artist Imogen Heap, one of my favorite authors Malcolm Gladwell, atheist champion Richard Dawkins and evangelist Billy Graham. TED is a non-profit organization and so lectures are freely available on the website or for download on iTunes and the few I’ve watched have been great.
The music scene has been good to me lately with a lot of my favorite bands coming out with new albums this summer. After a while though I was starting to wonder when I would “discover” my next big thing. I kind of feel like an old geezer when I’m not uncovering new bands once and a while, I need to keep it fresh.
