2009 books

I’ve been blogging for over a year now and one of the things I like best about it is that it forces me to be a little more intentional while I’m reading.  Knowing that I’m going to write a mini book review at the end of a book helps me to keep track of my impressions and the main ideas.  Now I’m just discovering how nice it is to have pretty comprehensive list of almost everything that I read in the year 2009.

So here are a list of my fave’s from this last year:

White Tiger: Cuz it was a different then what I usually read.

12 Steps for a Recovering Pharisee: Cuz it actually had an impact on the way I live, I became more aware of my tendency to judge… all the time.

The Road: Cuz it had the biggest emotional impact on me.  The dark, brooding ambiance stuck with me for days after I was finished, enough that I don’t want to see the movie and go through it again.

Outliers: Cuz it’s written by Malcolm Gladwell, he’s a gifted story teller and helps me to understand the humans and how we become who we are.

And now for my two favorites!

Blankets: Cuz it made me care for a cartoon, while touching on real life issues.

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: Cuz it inspired me enough to attempt an marathon this October in Victoria.

Kevin, I got A Million Miles in a Thousand Years for Christmas, Stephanie’s already read it and says it’s good. Though I haven’t been inspired by the book yet, I have signed up with a couple other guys from our church for the Winnipeg “Hypothermic Half” at the end of Feb. I’ve been training, but it’s been cold (-22 plus wind for running yesterday), a whole new take on running outdoors! Take care.
