To conclude my trilogy of favorites from 2009, here is a list of the music that made me extra happy this past year.
August Burns Red-Constellations = Metal that is so tough that they wear flip flops on stage.
Dredg-The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion = A little bit preachy, but the whole family likes it.
Thrice-Beggars = My favorite band does well at whatever style they choose to play.
Mastodon-Crack The Skye, Blood Mountain, and Leviathan = A new band for me this year. Three albums of dirty progressive Metal with the best album covers around.
Mew-No More Stories… , Frengers and The Glass Handed Kites = Another new band for me. Three albums of Danish quirk.
Oh, Sleeper-Son Of The Morning = So much fun, gets me moving in the morning.
Them Crooked Vultures = A super group consisting of John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme. Takes Queens of the Stone Age up a notch.
Between The Buried And Me-The Great Misdirect = My personal best of the year. Fantastic musicianship, parts country, circus music, but mostly slap you upside the head prog metal.
Mute Math-Armistice = The family favorite. Sing-ability, enough pop for the wife, enough groove for me.

We can connect on Then Crooked Vultures.
