My lasting first impression of The Door, was a huge two page spread of an ultra-hairy minister… in the buck. WOAH!!! What kind of smut do they keep in the CBC library anyway?
Years later, I really learned to enjoy the Christian satire magazine in it’s online format (it hasn’t been updated in over a year now though, no idea what happened). It poked fun at things that I would poke fun at, namely televangelists, Christian contemporary music and Mark Driscoll, and had interviews with interesting people like R C Sproul and Don Miller.
Mike Yaconelli was co-founder of The Door magazine and I just finished up his book Messy Spirituality during my Christmas vacation. It was raw and honest about “real” Christians struggles and breakthroughs, with plenty of good thoughts on loving others (even the smelly ones) and living a life without “churchianity.” In other words it was about normal messy life, with God in it. It wasn’t a mind blowing book, but I did enjoy Mike’s real life stories about his church and his way of describing things I’ve thought before, but couldn’t articulate quite as clearly.
